Trail Crowding Reduction Efforts – Weekend of April 11-12, 2020

In an effort to address trail crowding, this weekend (April 11th – 12th), there will be rangers posted in the following locations:

  • Eldora/Hessie Area – 2 deputies will be assigned to this area and the road will be closed at the juncture of 130 (Eldora Rd) and 140 (Ski Road) between 8 am and 5 pm this weekend; once the safe parking along the road is full, no additional cars will be allowed up the road. Hikers can park at the High School and walk in, but cars will not be allowed.
  • Mud Lake – Ranger will be turning cars away when the parking area is full. Rangers will also be monitoring Caribou, which is closed, to make sure the public isn’t walking in to the area.
  • Brainard Lake – Messaging will include that parking at Brainard is limited to the parking lot; additional patrol presence will enforce parking on the road.

We encourage people to:

-Stay close to home

-Recreate at times when areas are not crowded or go to places that are not seeing the same levels of use

-Practice social distancing and follow good trail conduct
