Sustainable Nederland
Nederland strives to create a more sustainable community and to be mindful of our use of natural resources. In big and little ways, the Town and its residents are working to insure that the natural resources we enjoy today will be around for future generations.

Summarizing the above, the Town must:
- recycle waste materials and annually review achievements
- require contractors and grantees to document environmental protection prior to awards
- notify contractors of these goals
- design new structures with the intent of LEED
- consider environmentally preferable products and services
- try to decrease the per capita use of fossil fuels by at least 1% per year in public and private buildings
- underground all future power lines
- encourage use of fuel efficient, clean vehicles
- purchase only Energy Star equipment and appliances for Town use
- increase the fuel efficiency of municipal vehicles, reduce the number of vehicles, launch an employee education program including anti-idling messages
- evaluate opportunities to increase pump efficiency in water and wastewater systems
- inventory global warming emissions in Town operations and in the community, set reduction targets and create an action plan
- adopt and enforce land-use policies that reduce sprawl, preserve open space, and create compact, walkable urban communities
The Sustainability Advisory Board advises the Board of Trustees and tracks sustainability trends and advances.
