MEET THE CANDIDATE EVENT
On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, there will be a “Meet the Candidates” event at the Nederland Community Center. The evening will start at 6pm with an informal meet-and-greet. The “Meet the Candidate” event will begin at 7pm in the theatre. During the event, candidates will be asked three questions that they will be given 90 seconds to respond to. Two of the questions will be pre-submitted questions that the candidates will receive 24 hours in advance and can prepare for. One question will be asked during the event.
For the two pre-submitted questions, we are asking that community members submit questions that they would like the candidates to answer. Town will be accepting questions until 5pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020.
On Friday, February 28, 2020, all of the questions in an online survey. Community members will have until 5pm on Friday, March 6, 2020 to vote for their top two questions for each position. The top two votes for the Mayoral candidates and the top two votes for the Trustee candidates will be the questions asked.

OCCUPATIONAL TAX TABOR BALLOT ISSUE
The following Occupational Tax TABOR ballot language was adopted by the Board of Trustees (BOT) on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. The Town of Nederland is now accepting “for” and “against” statements for the Occupational Tax. Statements must be filed with the Town Clerk by Friday, February 21, 2020. Statements can be filed in person at Town Hall, by mail (P.O. Box 396, Nederland, CO 80466) or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
SHALL THE TOWN OF NEDERLAND’S TAXES BE INCREASED $85,000 (FIRST FULL YEAR FISCAL INCREASE) ANNUALLY, COMMENCING ON JULY 1, 2020, AND BY WHATEVER ADDITIONAL AMOUNTS ARE RAISED ANNUALLY IN EACH SUBSEQUENT YEAR, BY LEVY OF AN OCCUPATION TAX TO BE PAID BY EVERY PERSON OR BUSINESS THAT FURNISHES SHORT-TERM LODGING (LESS THAN THIRTY (30) CONSECUTIVE DAYS), IN THE AMOUNT OF TWO DOLLARS ($2.00) PER DAY PER OCCUPIED BEDROOM OR PER OTHER ACCOMMODATION WITHOUT DEFINED BEDROOMS, WITH PROCEEDS TO BE USED FOR HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES AND LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES AND SHALL ALL REVENUES DERIVED FROM SUCH OCCUPATION TAX BE COLLECTED AND SPENT AS A VOTER-APPROVED REVENUE CHANGE, NOTWITHSTANDING ANY REVENUE OR EXPENDITURE LIMITATIONS CONTAINED IN ARTICLE X, SECTION 20, OF THE COLORADO CONSTITUTION, SECTION 29-1-301, COLORADO REVISED STATUTES, OR ANY OTHER LAW?
TABOR ballot notices, which will contain the ballot language and the “for” and “against” statements, will be mailed out to each household having a least one registered voter by Monday, March 9, 2020.
An absentee ballot for the April 2020 election can be requested starting Wednesday, January 8, 2020. If you require an absentee ballot, please provide a written request to the Town Clerk. The request can be emailed to email@example.com or mailed to P.O. Box 396, Nederland, CO 80466. The last day to request an absentee ballot is Friday, April 3, 2020.
VOTER REGISTRATION & INFORMATION
Nederland residents can register to vote at Town Hall. Please come into the office during business hours (Monday – Thursday 9am – 5pm and Friday 9am – 12pm) to complete your voter registration. Eligible voters can register up to Election Day, Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
Find your current registration or register to vote on the Boulder County Elections website. Learn about Colorado voter registration requirements. Colorado does not have a registration deadline. Register to vote up to and including Election Day.
CANDIDATE INFORMATION MEETINGS
The Town Clerk’s Office hosted two “Candidate Information Meetings” for those interested in running for the Board of Trustees (both Mayor and Trustee positions). The meetings were held on Monday, January 6, 2020 at 7pm and Monday, January 20, 2020 at 7pm at the Nederland Community Center. At the meetings, the Town Clerk’s office provided information regarding the Colorado Campaign and Financial Practices Act as well as other important candidate information.
