Since the formation of the DDA in November 2005, the appointed Board of Directors has been seeking grants to use as leverage with DDA funds to construct its highest priority project, safe pedestrian walkways within the DDA District. The Federal Highway Administration awarded $546,000 in funds to the Town for enhancement of pedestrian ways and drainage issues in CDOT right-of-way along parts of Hwy 119. An additional $325,000 in stimulus funds was awarded in March 2009. In accordance with federal guidelines, the DDA and Town officials released a request for proposals in October, interviewed four firms for the job of designing and engineering this project, and chose the firm of Loris and Associates of Louisville to complete this phase. Phase I of the sidewalk project was completed in late 2010.
