Full Canyon Closures Tuesday and Thursday & 35 Minute Delays
Monday, April 29 through Friday, May 3, sections of State Highway 119 – Boulder Canyon will have single and full closures. During working hours there will be up to 5 areas impacted concurrently. Please see attached map of active work areas throughout the canyon.
Tuesday, April 30, and Thursday, May 2, rock blasting activities will result in a full closure of CO119 from MP 39-40, between the hours of 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To avoid the road closure, motorists are encouraged to be through the canyon by 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
Asphalt paving will begin Monday, April 29 and last all week, impacting MP 30-37. Motorist will be guided around the single lane closures with traffic control flaggers.
A single lane closure will remain in place near MP 39, 24-hrs a day, 7 days a week, to preserve the work zone area. Traffic will be managed by a timed traffic signal.
Work on several drainage culverts along the highway will continue between MP 28-37. The locations of the culvert crews will change throughout the day. Motorist will be guided around the single lane closures with traffic control flaggers.
Hours, Delay Times and Alternate Routes
Work hours for this week are Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Up to 35 minute delays are expected through the canyon during work hours. Speed limits are reduced to 25 miles per hour in the construction zones. The work is weather dependent and the schedule may change. Please plan additional time to travel through the construction zones or to use the alternate route, CO-72 to Lefthand Canyon Drive, during the full road closure.
The Boulder Canyon Trail, from Boulder, at the canyon mouth to the Fourmile Canyon trailhead, will be closed Monday evening at 8 p.m., re-opening on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and it will close again on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m., re-opening Thursday at 3 p.m.
The Boulder Canyon Creek will be closed for recreational use from Boulder, at the canyon mouth, to the Fourmile Canyon trailhead on Tuesday and Thursday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
