FINAL UPDATE – Upper Navajo Trl & Ute Wy Water Repair

Please be advised that the water leak has been repaired.

As always, when water service is interrupted, repair work can stir up sediment within the distribution system.  If discolored water occurs, it is not a health hazard.  However, it can possibly create staining on porcelain and laundry.  If there is discoloration, run your COLD water only for several minutes until it runs clear; do this before doing laundry or using hot water.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during any service interruptions.

PUBLIC HEARING – April 10th @ 7pm, Community Center – Knotted Root Brewery Liquor Sales Room Application

Dear Nederland Residents and Business Owners,

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Town of Nederland Liquor Licensing Authority will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the Nederland Community Center, at 750 Highway 72 North, in the Multipurpose Room to consider a recommendation for:

  • An application from Knotted Root Brewing Company for a liquor sales room, pursuant to C.C. R. 12-47-428 to be exercised at 250 N. Caribou Rd., Nederland, Colorado.

Applicant Name & Title: Chris Marchio, Founder/Manager

Trade Name: Knotted Root Brewing Company

Mailing Address: PO BOX 3342, Nederland CO 80466

For a Liquor Sales Room application, the state ultimately approves the license, but the local licensing authority may submit findings as to how the permit would impact traffic, noise, or other neighborhood concerns in a manner that is inconsistent with local regulations or ordinances.  The local licensing authority for the Town of Nederland’s is the Board of Trustees.

Holding a public hearing to include residents and business owner’s opinions in the matter is permitted, but not required by State law. Such a hearing would not be to approve or reject the application.  It would be to hear community and staff concerns and reasons of support, give the applicant a chance to rebut any concerns, and formulate input from the Board to forward to the State, who will make the ultimate licensing decision.

Join us on Tuesday April 10th at the Community Center for the opportunity to share your opinion for consideration of the Liquor Sales Room application from Knotted Root Brewery. The meeting will also be live streamed and can be listened to on the Town’s Civic Web portal.

For assistance in accessing the portal, please contact Town Hall at 303-258-3266.

Please note: This April 10th, 2018 public hearing will take the place of the April 17th, 2018

UPDATE – Upper Navajo Trl & Ute Way Water Service

Water interruption to Upper Navajo & Ute has been restored.  If you experience discolored water, please know that it is not a health hazard, however it could cause staining on porcelain or laundry.  If you have discolored water, run COLD water for several minutes until it runs clear; do this before doing laundry or using hot water.

The leak has been located, however the repair will resume Wednesday March 28th, when a special order part arrives.  We do not believe water service will be interrupted tomorrow.

Possible Water Outage in Upper Navajo Trl & Ute Way

Last Thursday, 03/22, a small number of homes were posted that their water service may be interrupted as our Water Dept. continues to narrow in on locating a leak servicing the Upper Navajo Trl and Ute Way area.  If your water is off, it is likely you are one of those homes.

Even if work continues on subsequent days, the plan is to restore service for the evening/overnight hours.  Subsequent updates may be found here and/or by calling 303-258-3088 for a recorded update; messages may also be left at that number.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but appreciate your cooperation and understanding while this repair is made.

Joint statement on law enforcement contract with the Town of Nederland

The Sheriff’s Office will provide nighttime policing service from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., seven days a week

Nederland, Colo. – At their March 20 meeting, the Nederland Board of Trustees approved the town staff’s request for a Nighttime Police Contract with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office at a cost of $121,498 annually. This is a yearlong contract with an automatic renewal, and a cancellation clause of 6 months’ notice. As a result, the Sheriff’s Office will assume responsibility for all primary law enforcement operations and call response in the Town of Nederland between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., seven days a week. Monies provided under the contract will be used to hire an additional deputy and acquire an additional patrol vehicle, which will result in an increase of law enforcement coverage not only in Nederland, but to the surrounding mountain communities in the unincorporated county. The contract must still be signed by the Board of County Commissioners, but is anticipated to begin April 1.

The Nederland Police Department (NPD) has had a difficult time attracting and retaining enough police officers to provide 24-hour coverage and currently has two vacant police officer positions. The Sheriff’s Office is able to provide night time policing for less cost than two new officers, in addition to having more resources available for investigative follow-up, when needed. The flat contract pricing includes all ordinary costs for policing services, meaning the town has a set budgeted amount for police service and would not incur additional town staff expenses such as medical coverage, 401k retirement contributions, workers comp insurance, payroll taxes, fuel, vehicle maintenance, overtime, and training, which can be unpredictable. Additionally, NPD will see cost savings in elimination of the fee officers were getting paid to be on call, which totaled $5,200 annually.
