Dear Valued RTD Customer:
We hope this finds you well as we all navigate these extraordinary times. In an effort to keep you informed of the latest developments on how the Regional Transportation District (RTD) is addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to send periodic updates.
*Take Our Online Survey
RTD is seeking public input on how the community is using transit now and plans to ride as stay-at-home orders are lifted and people increase their public activity. You can provide input through an online survey on RTD’s website through Sunday, May 10 on the COVID-19 page here: https://www.rtd-denver.com/coronavirus.
The survey is available in English and Spanish.
RTD will use the results in our planning as ridership increases and service ramps up. This will help us understand feelings about our current efforts and what is important for people to have a comfort level to hop back on transit when stay-at-home orders are lifted and more people return to work and moving around the region.
*Partners in Safety
We are asking the public to be our partners in safety by wearing a mask while riding RTD services and only taking essential trips. We’re requiring our operators to wear face coverings, too, through our internal Use of Face Covering Policy.
We are urging our riders to the greatest extent possible to wear a mask or face covering and help us comply with the current orders by our regional leaders. With rear-door boarding, our operators aren’t able to monitor if riders are wearing a mask. But more importantly, we do not want our operators to have to be in the position of being enforcers when they need to be focused on moving people safely. Our hope is that everyone will make it their personal responsibility to follow orders and protocols and be our partners in safety.
*How to Distance on Transit
If you’re riding transit, some simple measures can help us all respect social distancing. Keep at least 6 feet away from other riders. We are limiting ridership to no more than 15 people per standard bus, 20 people per larger bus and 30 people per train car. If vehicles appear to reach these capacities, riders should not board and either go to the next train car or wait for the next bus. On routes that are serving more riders, additional buses are being staged and dispatched, so the next bus isn’t far behind. RTD will continue to monitor operations during the dynamic pandemic situation and make adjustments in service and safety practices as necessary.

*RTD Upholstery Shop Mask-Making
A big high-five to RTD’s Upholstery Shop for adjusting to COVID times and getting creative. With masks still being a hot commodity, the staff of the Upholstery Shop have pivoted and are making reusable cloth masks.
*Community Partners Help Protect Our Staff
To help us address the worldwide shortage of masks, several organizations and individuals have provided RTD with masks and face coverings during the pandemic crisis. Among them is RTD Board Member Natalie Menten and her sewing strike force, who have produced 1,700 handmade cloth face coverings for RTD’s frontline staff.
