Gateway Park Naming Poll

Gateway Park Naming Poll (241.3 KiB, 480 hits)

The Nederland Parks, Recreation & Open Space Advisory Board (PROSAB) is seeking area resident input for naming Nederland’s gateway park. (“Gateway park” is a concept – it lies at the gateway to Nederland – but it is not necessarily the name we want for our park. Then again, maybe it is). See attached for further information.  Please take a moment to fill in a choice and let your voice be heard. The Town is looking forward to the outcome!

Background
Development of a gateway park on the shores of Barker Meadow Reservoir at the eastern entrance to Nederland was a stated goal of the Town of Nederland and Surrounding Areas Open Space, Trails, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan (2001). A conceptual Design was completed in 2002 by the CSU Cooperative Extension Service with the aid of a DOLA (Colorado Department of Local Affairs) grant. In the spring of 2009, the PROSAB and local no-profit organization NEDSK8 jointly conducted a community survey to gauge local residents’ interests and priorities for recreational development of the gateway park area.

Current Plans

The Town of Nederland has applied for a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) planning grant with which to update the Nederland and Surrounding Areas Open Space, Trails, Parks and Outdoor Recreation Master Plan and develop an updated conceptual design for a gateway park. (Grant award notification will be in June, 2011). If the grant is awarded, work on the updated plans will begin this summer, with multiple opportunities for public input. The planning process is expected to take about a year.
