New Ballot Drop Box at the Community Center

A new ballet drop box has been installed at the Community Center.

The 24-hour boxes throughout the state will open on October 15 and close on November 6 at 7 p.m. Ballots will be sent out on October 15 and start to appear in peoples mailboxes later in the week. When the box is opened on October 15 we will also post ballot pick-up date/time information. While the 24-hour is open, video surveillance/recording will be active.

Colorado voters can use any drop off box in the state. For example, Lafayette, Denver or Gilpin County voters can use the Nederland drop box and vice-a-versa. Each county has a process in place to get ballots back to the home county.

New Procedure to Apply for Financial Assistance with Home Heating Bills

In the past, Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services has helped administer the Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) in Boulder County. LEAP helps people pay the costs of their home heating bills in the winter months. Beginning this heating season, through a partnership with the Colorado Department of Human Services, all processing of LEAP applications in Boulder County will now be done through Discover Goodwill.

The LEAP program operates November 1 through April 30. More information, including additional details on program eligibility, is available on the state’s LEAP page. To qualify for LEAP, applicants must be:

  1. Responsible for paying heating costs to an energy provider, fuel dealer or, as part of their rent; and
  2. Permanent legal residents of the United States and Colorado, or have household members who are U.S. citizens.

LEAP assistance is not intended to pay a household’s entire cost of home heating, so it is important that households continue to pay their heating bills.
