Flood-damaged Sewer Line Repairs beginning March to May 15, 2014

by CynthiaB on March 18, 2014

Dear Neighbor,

The Town has hired a company to perform repairs to the Town’s sewer lines damaged by the September 2013 flood.  These flood repairs are vital to our collection system and the overall operations of our Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF).  The September 2013 flood caused damage to our sewer lines, allowing for inflow and infiltration (I&I) of ground water into the lines. The additional ground water that is entering our sewer lines negatively impacts the WWTF operations and processes.

These repairs will encompass parts of 3rd Street, 4th Street, Conger Street, Stinky Gulch, and 1st Street.   Residents and businesses will be notified 48 hours in advance of pending repairs so they can plan ahead.  Depending on the specific repair and the location of the resident, a home may be without sanitary sewer for up to 8 hours.   Although residents will not see disruption of their water service during the repair period, limited use (vital use only) of water and fluids to the drain will be required.  It is recommended that the resident limit the amount of water entering the sewer line to no more than 5 gallons (1 flush of a toilet).  Residents are strongly discouraged from washing dishes, clothes or taking a shower during the repair day.  Residents who ignore the limited use of water requirement run the risk of having water or sewage back up into their home.

For work on First Street and Conger Street, the sewer line repairs will happen at night (12 am -7 am) in order to accommodate restaurants and other business on these lines.  We will work with the contractor and businesses to schedule this work to be as accommodating as possible to not disrupt business operations.

Work will commence in March and is scheduled to be completed by May 15, 2014.  Please address any questions you may have to Town Hall.  Thank you for your understanding through this short flood recovery improvement project.
