Town of Nederland Trustees:
As we reported to the Board of Trustees, Xcel Energy will complete our work to rebuild a main feeder line to Nederland by the latter part of January. This week represents an important milestone as our crews begin to transfer electric customers to the new line. In fact, if the weather holds, we’ll have all of our customers receiving service from the upgraded power line by Saturday.
We want you to know that our engineers have designed the transfer so that the vast majority of Nederland customers will not experience any interruption of service, however, a small number (about 100) will need to experience a brief outage as our crews perform this work safely. I know that this is disappointing news since Nederland has experienced so many outages this fall, but we really are in the home stretch.
Beginning Tuesday, only those customers who will need to be interrupted will be receiving an automated call from me (see below) explaining that power will need to be interrupted for no more than an hour. They will also receive a notice on their doors explaining the exact time and date of the outage.
“Hello, this is Craig Eicher, area manager for Xcel Energy in the Nederland area with an important message about your electric service. We are nearly complete with our two-year project to rebuild a power line serving Nederland. This project will greatly improve our service to you. In order to transfer your service to the new line, we will need to briefly interrupt your electric service. The interruption will be scheduled to occur sometime between Wednesday January 8th and Saturday January 12th and last about an hour. We’ll contact you either in person or via a notice hung on your door 24 hours ahead of the outage with a specific time and date. This service interruption is the last planned outage required to complete the ongoing power line upgrade in your area. We understand and appreciate the impact recent electric outages have had on you and we apologize for them. We are committed to providing Nederland with reliable power and greatly appreciate your patience while we work to upgrade the system serving you. If you have any questions of concerns, please call us at 1-800-895-4999. Thank you.”
If anyone calls the customer care number, they will be forwarded to our project manager who will answer their questions.
I thank you very much and look forward to the improvement in reliability to you as well as our opportunity to update you and the community on our work Jan 21. We value Nederland.
